In the chemical industry, biomethane is used for ammonia and hydrogen production in the steam reformer. When converted into synthesis gas, biomethane can also be used to produce various basic chemicals. The EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) is a core element of the EU’s climate change policy and the main instrument for cost-effective reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from industry (Source: Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) | Climate Policy (europa.eu). Plants subject to emissions trading under EU ETS can apply emission factor 0 when using biomethane.
